I do not drink from the same cup
that got me drunk with infatuation
with those who didn’t yearn for me
the way I did for them.
Sans the drink I could see
the sky is blue and plain
but no less beautiful
than when it sparkled with my
imagination.
I see daylight as my window
to fulfill the day’s orders.
Yet no less meaningful
than when it was spent daydreaming
of futures (with lovers)
that existed only in my head.
I drink instead from a spring,
clear and cool
and still as a fair day
filled with uneventful hours.
Yet the nights are no less magical
than when I fancied myself
up in the stars,
dancing to music
that had long died.
For a steady wind
is all the magic I need,
shared with one whose words
and deeds are true.
It is in the minutes, the mundane,
the humor in silly circumstances.
A hand to reach for
in the ordinary hours,
to render them special
but by the other’s presence,
observance, and regard.
